The Traditional EMT Program is a classroom-based program designed to prepare students for entry-level Emergency Medical Technician practice.
No prior EMS certification required.
48 hours of clinical rotations required.
Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry EMT exam.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for patients in emergency and non-emergency settings. EMTs assess patients, manage airway and breathing emergencies, provide CPR and bleeding control, assist with certain medications, and prepare patients for transport.
Successful completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course that meets or exceeds the National EMS Education Standards for the EMT.
Students in the EMT program should expect a combination of classroom instruction, assigned reading, skills practice, and online coursework designed to reinforce core EMT knowledge and decision-making.
The EMT course may utilize approved textbook and online learning resources to support lectures, homework assignments, quizzes, testing, and classroom review. Students should expect regular skills practice in patient assessment, airway management, CPR, trauma care, splinting, lifting and moving, and medical emergency management.
This program also includes 48 hours of clinical rotations to give students supervised patient-care exposure and help prepare them for real-world EMT practice.
Successful completion of the course prepares eligible students to apply for National Registry EMT testing and pursue Georgia EMT licensure.
