The 232 Hour A-EMT Program builds on EMT knowledge and prepares students for expanded patient assessment, IV therapy, selected medication administration, advanced airway adjuncts, and other advanced life support skills within the AEMT scope of practice.
Current EMT certification required.
96 hours of clinical rotations required.
Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry (NREMT) AEMT exam.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (AEMTs) provide care beyond the EMT level by performing selected advanced life support interventions under medical oversight. AEMTs manage medical and trauma emergencies, initiate IV access, administer certain medications, and provide more advanced patient care in the prehospital environment.
Successful completion of a state-approved Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) course that meets or exceeds the National EMS Education Standards for the AEMT.
Students in the AEMT program should expect classroom instruction, advanced skills practice, scenario-based training, and required clinical experiences designed to build on EMT-level knowledge and prepare students for expanded patient-care responsibilities.
The AEMT course may utilize approved textbook and online learning resources to support lectures, assignments, testing, and classroom review. Students should expect regular lab practice in advanced patient assessment, IV access, selected medication administration, airway adjuncts, and medical and trauma management within the AEMT scope.
This program includes required clinical training to provide supervised patient-care experience and help prepare students for AEMT practice and certification testing.
Successful completion of the course prepares eligible students to apply for National Registry AEMT testing and pursue Georgia AEMT licensure.
